Harley Davidson fuck up .. I mean error. Recall 0143

HD has made a nice sized error that they have caught onto and corrected . They put the wrong fork springs on the FXDF, it actually has FXDWG  internals which cause improper handling in turns . Here is the statement by HD pertaining to the problemo .

Safety Recall Campaign 0143 (2010 FXDF - Fork Leg Assemblies)

Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on certain model year 2010 FXDF motorcycles with Fork Leg Assemblies (LH P/N 48622-08, RH P/N 48623-08) built 1/29/10 through 2/9/10.  These Fork Leg Assemblies may have been incorrectly assembled at the supplier with FXDWG Springs (P/N 46620-06) instead of FXDF Springs (48741-08).  The motorcycles with assemblies containing the wrong spring will have reduced suspension effectiveness which may result in reduced traction on irregular road surfaces, and will also have a different lean angle when parked on the side stand, possibly affecting parking stability. This condition may increase the risk of a crash and possible injury or death to the rider.

We have voluntarily declared this a defect related to motor vehicle safety (Campaign 0143) to allow us to formally recall all affected motorcycles.  The remedy is to inspect the subject motorcycles by examining the date code label on the inside of the fork sliders. For those with a date codes of either 26A10 or 22A10, indicating a suspect spring , dealers will replace the Fork Leg Assemblies with a properly assembled part.  A service bulletin outlining the repair and credit procedure will follow within ten days.  Based on the schedule our supplier has provided we expect to have repair kits available for order on or before the week of July 26, 2010.

In the interest of the safety of our mutual customers and as required by law, you may sell but NOT DELIVER any motorcycles equipped with the defective Fork Leg Assemblies to your customers until the remedy is completed.

In accordance with Federal regulations administered by NHTSA, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. will provide notice to all owners of record of affected products with direction to bring the vehicle in for the recall service.
